Some notes on the flashlight technique

Why don't you use the flashlights more often?

We try them on almost every case, they very rarely work. It makes it much more compelling though when they do.

Can you use one flashlight?

We always use at least THREE. We use the first few minutes guiding the entity on how to use them, then if they are responsive, we assign different flashlights as 'yes' or 'no' or 'I don't know/don't understand'

In earlier episodes we used single flashlights, but over the years we have tweaked our methods.

Can the flashlight turn on and off without it being paranormal?

YES. We use only mag lights and we twist them until they are barely off. It's important to remember that temperature fluctuations can cause the internal connection to expand, thereby turning the flashlight on - then the heat of the light can again cause that connection to contract, and turn the flashlight off. A flashlight going on and off on its own when set up in this fashion is not "paranormal" unless it is answering questions directly.

When does it become paranormal?

We take notice of a flashlight session ONLY if the flashlights stay off until asked a question and answer correctly when asked control questions, (i.e. Is my name Amy?) There are NO exceptions to these rules. If the flashlights are flashing on and off and you're not asking questions, or they're flashing as you're asking or you have not put any controls in place, it's easily just the flashlights acting "naturally."

As with all investigative techniques you must be strict and realistic about what is happening. Do not be so eager to believe that it clouds your judgement. When the flashlight technique works, it is incredible. I am convinced that the simple act of a light turning on and off transcends all the gadgetry we have out there, and I also believe it is easier for some entities to manipulate the light rather than give lengthy EVP explanations.

I hope that answers some of your questions.
